ABSTRACT

Objective:

Pregnancy is a period in which the level of physical activity is generally low. Physiological, psychological, physical and emotional changes in pregnancy negatively affect the sleep quality of pregnant women. It is suggested that inactivity and sleep changes in pregnant women may have effects on the quality of life. The aim of our study is to evaluate the effects of physical activity level and sleep quality on quality of life in pregnant women.

Materials and Methods:

A total of 104 uncomplicated pregnant women from 1-3. trimesters were included in the study. The self-prepared “patient assessment questionnaire”, pregnancy physical activity questionnaire, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and EQ-5D-3L were used as rating scale.

Results:

51.9% of the pregnant women had poor sleep quality. When the trimesters were compared, it was seen that while total physical activity level did not change, sleep quality and quality of life deteriorated (p<0.05). Though no statistically significant relation was found between physical activity level and quality of life (p>0.05), there was a negative statistically significant relation between sleep quality and quality of life (r=-0.33; p=0.001).

Conclusion:

In our study it was determined that the physical activity levels did not change as the trimesters progressed, but the quality of sleep deteriorated and affected the quality of life negatively in pregnant women.
