ABSTRACT

There is a strong cause-effect relationship between Obstructive Sleep Apnoea syndrome (OSAS) and many cardiovascular diseases. A high prevalence of cardiac arrhythmia has also been reported in patients with OSAS. Nocturnal intermittent hypoxia, increased negative intrathoracic pressure and increase in sympathovagal activity are defined as the pathophysiological mechanisms by which OSAS triggers and/or increases cardiac arrhythmogenesis. Herein, in the light of a case report, we aimed to review the relationship between OSAS and cardiac arrhythmia.

Keywords: Obstructive Sleep Apnoea syndrome, cardiovascular diseases, arrhythmia
