ABSTRACT

Objective:

This study was conducted to determine the sleep problems of hospitalized women in the physical therapy and rehabilitation department.

Materials and Methods:

This is a descriptive study carried out among 169 women from 45-60 age groups, who were hospitalized in the physical therapy and rehabilitation clinic of a university hospital in Konya for at least 2 days, did not use a hormone replacement therapy, did not undergo a surgical menopause, did not use a sedative drug, cooperated, and consented to be included in the study.

Results:

The mean age of the patients 54.6±4.5 years. The mean score of the factors affecting the sleep pattern form was 81.5±12.72. It was found that there was a difference between the scale score of the factors affecting the duration of the hospitalization, having stress, history of psychiatric illness, daytime sleep and sleep patterns (p<0.05). It was revealed that there was no difference between the scale score of a working status of the women, income level, family type, place of residence, smoking, coffee consumption, tea drinking, regular exercise, permanently used medicine, medication, having a health problem in the last four weeks, and factors affecting the sleep patterns (p>0.05).

Conclusion:

As a result of the study, it was determined that more than half of the women had a change in their sleeping habits after they were hospitalized, and did not sleep at the same time at night; noise, pain, and medical devices attached to the body affected their sleep patterns.
